A great moment today that says so much about the nature of the Queen’s Park Press Gallery. As Dalton McGuinty emerged for his press scrum following the Speech from the Throne, the room was packed of cameras and journalists. Veteran reporters Robert Benzie of The Star and Keith Leslie of The Canadian Press both started to ask a question at the same time. Benzie stopped mid question to give ground to Leslie.
'No you go ahead' said Leslie.
"No, it’s your birthday"
"That was yesterday" said Leslie.
The Premier looked to the other side of the room and joked “Anyone over here with a question?”
Somehow I don’t see that happening on Parliament Hill.
I was just told by security that it’s against the rules to take a picture through the main doors of the legislature. I was trying to get a picture of McGuinty as he entered the chamber. It is allowed, however, to take as many pictures as you like from the press gallery balcony inside chamber. Try figuring out the logic of that.
